Wouter's Diary:
Wouter is the Head Ranger at Kwa Maritane, and although he's always notoriously busy around the park
and the lodge, he sends us precious snippets of life on the drives and in the camp whenever he can.

And it is still raining in the park…even the animals are starting to wear goggles and scuba gear. Off course the hippos think it is great fun having so much water in the park, but then again what do they know. At the moment the grass is extremely long and if you stand amongst it you can actually hear it growing. That is also why I have closed my walking trails because it is becoming too risky. You might just bump into a guinea fowl or a tortoise and then you have got serious problems….and of course there are the lions, ellies and other animals that could pounce on you from anywhere.
The rain in the park is very good and we needed it badly but our roads are starting to become a 4X4 track. My kidneys have now resigned from my body and all my guides have to basically see a physio after every drive…..just kidding. But the roads are bad and do not try to eat or drink while you driving cause most of it ends up on the person sitting behind you.
Our ellies are doing fine and they are back to their old regime. No trouble, but most look pretty miserable with all the rain. We have got one bull at the moment, which is giving us a very hard time. He is in musth and not very happy at the moment. Been chasing all the cars in the park and he chased me the other day. I reversed so fast, I reversed my contacts right out of my eyes onto the windscreen. He is a little devil and I wish his mother could give him a big hiding. But son is much bigger than mommy so she can do nothing. He ambushes everyone, looking quite relaxed when he stands behind a tree, but the moment you want to pass him then he brings those four legs into motion, his trunk starts doing all these funny patterns in the air, and he becomes very vocal. He would need some throat lozenges soon if you ask me.
Otherwise all is fine in the park and we are getting ready for the Easter weekend.
This year I am gonna find the easter bunny cause last year I think I saw him but everyone tells me it was a rhino. They all know how to pop a guys childhood bubble about the easter bunny.
I am terrible when it comes to writing on wildcam probably cause I very seldom get to sit infront of the computer. I will try you know, and hopefully I will start sending more little clips for wildcam.
But for now it is back to the wet slippery muddy bush out there to go and do what rangers do. (But that is a secret and I will have to kill you if I tell you)
Have a wonderfull day
Wouter and all my rangers
